Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) Certification
VIP Private Dental Assistant School prepares individuals in the Permian Basin for entry-level jobs as a dental assistant. Graduates may find suitable employment with general dental practices as well as dental specialists including Endodontists, Periodontists, Orthodontists, Prosthodontists, Pediatric Dentists and Oral Surgeons. Upon completion of this program you will be prepared to apply for the Registered Dental Assistant certification. RDA certification is the responsibility of the State Board of Dental Examiners.
The course and examination are available online. Through our school we will register you for the RDA course and examination at a reduced rate of $40.00. According to past students who have taken the course examination, it can be completed in 3.5 to 5 hours. Once registered into the course, you have 30 days to complete the course at your own pace. The only timed requirement is when a test is officially started. The tests must be completed without interruption. This course is administered through the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dental Assistants who make x-rays in Texas must register with the State Board of Dental Examiners (SBDE) within one year of employment.
“Qualified Dental Assistant” is a dental assistant who has received on-the-job training or instruction through a dental assisting school. There is no credential for this level of training or instruction.
“Registered Dental Assistant” is a dental assistant who has successfully completed the registration process with the SBDE. Dental Assistants who successfully register and have been issued a Dental Assistant Registration Certificate by the SBDE may use the credential “Registered Dental Assistant” or “RDA”.
“Certified Dental Assistant” is a dental assistant who meets the education and/or experience prerequisites established by the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB) and passes the DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Examination including; Radiation Health and Safety (RSH), Infection Control (ICE) and General Chairside (GC) components, is currently CPR-certified and continues to maintain the CDA credential by meeting DANB requirements. Dental Assistants who complete this process may use the credential “Certified Dental Assistant” or “CDA”.
